October is Black History Month - a busy time for the arts in Waltham Forest and many other places. The council has founded a range of events to celebrate month black culture and history.
About History (Before 1926 or 1976 - who knows African American Achievements?)
Black History Month's origins
are in the promotion of the history of people of African origin (or african american journey).
In promoting black history month (education and information), an essential dimension to
European history (possibley asian black white) that is often overlooked.
The aim is
to encourage all sections (including hill university students) of the community to
explore and share in African heritage.
All residents are invited to take part in the following events to celebrate Black History Month:
Includes:- Black men, balck women, black white, Asian, Europeans, children colouring pages, quiz, people of civil
war movement, freedom fighters, supporters of Martin Luther King, big figures, students,
minority & diversity, End of slavery, negro, inventors, politicians, poetry, biography, etc..

6 Central Parade, Hoe Street, Walthamstow E17 4RT Alexander D. Great, British's leading Calypsonian is performing once again in a joint celebration of Black History Month and National Poetry Day. A fusion of soul, calypso and elements of the blues - socablues. Tickets in advance from Walthamstow Information Service.

Leyton Sixth Form College presents a double bill for Black History Month 2006: The Lonely Londoners & Sun-a-shine, Rain-a-fall
The Lonely Londoners is a play based on the novel by Sam Seldon and other recollections
from people who moved to London from the Caribbean in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
Sun-a-shine, Rain-a-fall is a musical celebration of the people and culture of the
Windrush generation. Presented by BTEC music and drama students of Leyton Sixth Form College. Further information is available on 020 892 89146
